Chris Baskin Integral Potter – Two Day Workshop

Join us for two days of hands on making, demonstrations and discussion with Portland, Oregon based potter Chris Baskin.  Hands on making exercises for utilitarian and ritual forms on the wheel, with mark making and slip decoration to interact with firing. Day 2, Follow ceramic and creative processes with handles, feet, and connected parts. Integrate composition, balance, volume, form and surface in the ceramic object. Workshop for all levels.
           Friday evening 6 – 7:30 image lecture and demo:           
           Symbols, Stories, Self and Stardust
 
           Saturday: Hands on interactive wheel throwing: form,
           design and decoration
 
           Sunday: a second look, cutting feet, making additions,
           integrated lids and handles. Play and games for
           investigating creative process and artist intent
          

          ABOUT CHRIS BASKIN

Chris Baskin is an Portland, Oregon based potter who makes atmospherically fired ceramics for utilitarian, aesthetic, and contemplative purposes. His work is exhibited nationally and internationally. He completed a Master of Fine Arts degree at Alfred University in New York in 1995, and has taught at numerous universities including James Madison, Northern Arizona, University of Louisville, and Whitworth University, Spokane.

Chris worked as a resident artist at Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana, and the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony in Woodstock, New York. In 2016 he was nominated for the Janet Mansfield Memorial Award for his soda firing by the (ICMEA), International Ceramic Magazine Editors Association. In 2017 he was awarded an Oregon Arts Commission grant for a residency at the FuLe International Ceramic Art Museum Complex in Shaanxi Province, China.

He received a Studio Potter Grant for Apprenticeship, along with his mentee, Dwayne Sackey in 2021. In 2023, Chris presented at the National Conference on Education and the Ceramic Arts on a panel titled Nature/Nurture: Ceramic Community as a Lab for Self Awareness. He served as the Content Coordinator for the Northwest Wood Firing Conference held in Newburg, Oregon in 2022.
